| Yes I am alive. Yes this message is late, but please accept my apologies. Please note that you can now celebrate Cinco de Mayo every day of the year... | | |
| Every once in a great while someone makes a clear statement that has needed to be made. Sometimes that statement is a dramatic and bold challenge like, "Give me Liberty or give me death!" It can also be something deadly cold and menacing like, "Don't tread on me." Others times it may simply be a clarification of purpose or position. Regardless of what form they take, these messages revolutionize and charge those toward whom it is directed. it serves to influence both purpose and identity without confusing the two. In a time of national and international despondency in this long Global War on Terror, I am grateful that this call is being rung out. It serves to remind and distill what we do and who are as warfighters. I am proud to be an American, and I am proud to serve in my nation's military. The following is an excerpt from an official Navy message recently handed down to the fleet from Adm. Gay Roughead, the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington D.C.
AN ETHOS IDENTIFIES DISTINGUISHING CHARACTER, CULTURE, OR BELIEFS OF A GROUP OR INSTITUTION. THE NAVY ETHOS IS DESIGNED TO COMMUNICATE A SET OF BELIEFS APPROPRIATE AND IMPORTANT TO THE MORE THAN 400,000 MILITARY AND 180,000 CIVILIAN PERSONNEL WHO SHARE A COMMON BOND OF SERVICE IN THE NAVY, REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND, PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, OR POSITION.
AFTER GATHERING INPUT ACROSS THE NAVY FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, THE NAVY ETHOS HAS BEEN APPROVED. THE FINAL PRODUCT IS THE RESULT OF COMMENTS FROM THOUSANDS OF ACTIVE AND RESERVE SAILORS AND NAVY CIVILIANS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE ON THE FUNDAMENTAL PRINCIPLES AND VALUES THE NAVY EMPLOYS DAILY TO WIN WARS AND BUILD AND MAINTAIN SECURITY AND STABILITY.
WE ARE THE UNITED STATES NAVY, OUR NATION'S SEA POWER - READY GUARDIANS OF PEACE, VICTORIOUS IN WAR.
WE ARE PROFESSIONAL SAILORS AND CIVILIANS - A DIVERSE AND AGILE FORCE EXEMPLIFYING THE HIGHEST STANDARDS OF SERVICE TO OUR NATION, AT HOME AND ABROAD, AT SEA AND ASHORE.
INTEGRITY IS THE FOUNDATION OF OUR CONDUCT; RESPECT FOR OTHERS IS FUNDAMENTAL TO OUR CHARACTER; DECISIVE LEADERSHIP IS CRUCIAL TO OUR SUCCESS.
WE ARE A TEAM, DISCIPLINED AND WELL-PREPARED, COMMITTED TO MISSION ACCOMPLISHMENT. WE DO NOT WAVER IN OUR DEDICATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY TO OUR SHIPMATES AND FAMILIES.
WE ARE PATRIOTS, FORGED BY THE NAVY'S CORE VALUES OF HONOR, COURAGE AND COMMITMENT. IN TIMES OF WAR AND PEACE, OUR ACTIONS REFLECT OUR PROUD HERITAGE AND TRADITION.
WE DEFEND OUR NATION AND PREVAIL IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY WITH STRENGTH, DETERMINATION, AND DIGNITY.
WE ARE THE UNITED STATES NAVY. | | |
| This post is dedicated to my ever-loving and oh-so-special, Wifey. I love you Babe. I don't know what I look forward to more, you in my arms or me in yours...
I think I've walked too close to love And now I'm falling in. There's so many things this weary soul can't take. Maybe you just caught me by surprise The first time that I looked into your eyes. There's a life inside of me That I can feel again, It's the only thing that takes me Where I've never been. I don't care if I lost everything that I have known, It don't matter where I lay my head tonight, Your arms feel like home. Feel like home... This life ain't the fairy tale we both thought it would be, But I can see your smiling face as it's staring back at me. I know we both see these changes now. I know we both understand somehow. There's a life inside of me That I can feel again, It's the only thing that takes me Where I've never been. I don't care if I lost everything that I have known, It don't matter where I lay my head tonight, Your arms feel like home. They feel like home... (hold on, you're home to me) There's a life inside of me That I can feel again, It's the only thing that takes me Where I've never been. I don't care if I lost everything that I have known, It don't matter where I lay my head tonight, Your arms feel like home. They feel like home...

| Light a man a fire and he'll stay warm for one night. Light a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life! | | |
| "Better get the goggles and scarf out!" The weather has been
getting colder over here, arguably getting me a little more acclimated for the dramatic seasonal shift when I go back home, but we still aren't immune to the
occasional bout of foul weather. Here is a recent picture of a sand
storm visibly advancing down my street.
